When the weather begins to warmup, I quickly exchange in my seasonal hot beverage of choice for a cold, refreshing glass of iced chai latte or cold brew. While in college, it is easy to spend a small fortune running to the on-campus Starbucks to get your daily caffeine fix. Then I learned how to make the best cold brew coffee at home.
If you haven’t jumped on the cold-brew train, I’ll tell you now… I LOVE IT! Cold brew is naturally sweeter than traditional hot coffee because it is made with cold water rather than hot water which makes it less acidic. Instead of brewing coffee with hot water, to make cold brew coffee you mix together coffee grounds and cold water. Then let the mixture steep in the refrigerator. After straining out the coffee grounds, you are left with coffee concentrate that can be used to make the best crafted coffees at home!
This cold brew coffee recipe makes perfect crafted coffee with a deliciously smooth flavor. Cold brew coffee has less bitterness than coffee made with other brewing methods. It’s never watery and you can make the cold brew concentrate as strong as you like it. Making cold brew coffee is easy to do with just a French press, coffee grounds and water. You don’t need any special equipment, and I’ll share which containers and tools work best for me.
If you think you will enjoy a naturally sweeter and less acidic cup of coffee, then this coffee base recipe is for you. Feel free to enhance your cold brew experience by using sweeteners, spices, and milks to customize to your taste! One of my favorite cold brew recipes is my own Lavender Sweet Cream Cold Brew recipe. It’s a wonderful alternative for those days when you need a whole lot of hustle and just the right amount of chill. Take a moment to unwind with this simple Lavender Sweet Cream Cold Brew that uses my D.I.Y sweet cream recipe and Monin lavender syrup. And then get on conquering your day like I know you can.
