I am a huge fan of second-day hair for many reasons. The main one being that styles get better with time. First-day hair is too ‘perfect’ and flat for my liking, but with one night of sleep in my satin cap, my curls seem to stretch. I really don’t anything to my first-day hair; instead, opting to fluff and enjoy my defined, yet fuller curls on the second day. This style often has a more natural look that gets mistaken for my natural curl pattern.
With that being said, I am also a girl who loves to procrastinate washing her hair. So, I have mastered the skill of stretching out my styles by refreshing and moisturizing them regularly.
Here are my tips for keeping your natural hair refreshed and moisturized:
Evening –
- If my scalp is feeling itchy the night before, I massage my DIY Hair and Body Recovery Oil into it using the pads of my fingers.
- Depending on what style I am rocking the next day, I put my hair in a loose ponytail with a stretchy satin scrunchy. This elongates my curls without adding frizz.
- Use a satin bonnet or pillowcase! This will protect your hair and keep your style looking fresh.
Morning –
- Flip your head over and shake! This will loosen the curls stuck to your head from sleeping and allow you to see the state of your hair.
- Depending on the state of your hair, I would suggest misting your hair with water or rose water to provide some moisture and to help your curls spring back to life. And sometimes water is all you need to reactivate the stylers already in your hair.
- Or if you need a little more moisture in your life, try a leave-in conditioner spray instead of water. These sprays will help redefine, moisturize, and restore your curls back to a frizz-free and full of life state.
- Finally, if you currently have a protective style, you may want to try to simply slather a leave-in cream over your braids and then seal it with oil.
Remember –
There is not a regimen out there that will give you the results you are looking for if you don’t stick to it. So, no matter what you do for your hair, be consistent and observant of your hair need. In my experience, this has given me the healthiest and bounciest curls.
